Biography

Phil Hornshaw is a freelance writer, journalist, author, Internet addict and generalized nerd who hails from the Los Angeles area. He’s worked as a freelancer since 2009, covering a variety of industries and topics, including general news, technology, movies, television and video games.

Over the last decade, Hornshaw’s primary coverage area has been video games. He’s worked for a number of websites covering games and related tech, including Playboy, Complex, Polygon, Kotaku, Gamasutra, GameSpot and Appolicious.

In 2012, he published his first book with co-author and super best friend Nick Hurwitch: “So You Created a Wormhole: The Time Traveler’s Guide to Time Travel.” The book combines a frankly ludicrous knowledge of poplar culture with science fiction, humor, and actual science to create a sort of guidebook to time travel. Its follow-up, “The Space Hero’s Guide to Glory: How to Get Off Your Podunk Planet and Master the Final Frontier,” was published in 2015.

Today, Hornshaw’s work can most often be found on TheWrap.com and Digital Trends. He’s also a frequent contributor to the timesuck that is Twitter.
